Streamlining chemical routes along with minimising solvent waste and avoiding side product formation are effective strategies that impact on the greenness of synthetic chemistry. Flow chemistry provides means for cleaner reactions and can help to further improve the sustainability of our routes. Using biocatalysts such as immobilised lipases allowed us to derivatise residual benzyl alcohol in telescoped Curtius rearrangements at multi-gram scale. We also demonstrated how readily available photocatalysts such as TBADT allow for making C-C bonds with 100% atom economy en route to valuable aminoalkyl sulfones.
